I’ve seen the lot now, and it is an immensely powerful piece of television - well acted (particularly young Owen Cooper who apparently hadn’t acted before), and it’s a technical masterpiece. The way that they made it was incredible.

But… I think that it probably poses more questions than it answers really, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. We don’t really get a clear answer as to why Jamie does what does, and it’s interesting to see that

    .

I think that everybody should see this and probably allow their teenagers to see it too.

Yes, I saw Jack Thorne interviewed and he was very clear that they weren't looking to give answers: it's intended as the start of a conversation rather than some TV writers proclaiming from on high what everyone should do.

I thought the drama was good, but I think it's needs to be put into perspective. Teenagers being troubled, angry and agressive is almost a decades old cliche (because it's true),it's the nature of adolesence. Teenagers turning to murder, however, is is still something that is very low in the statistics. It might seem more present, because of the 24/7 social media/news era we live in, and the constant over focus on these negative events, but the numbers suggest something of a low statistic. Should it be shown in schools, yes why not.

I think the main warning to parents is to not let your kid have carte blanche access to social media. When my child is of that age (I should say 'if', damn IVF still hasn't worked!) they won't be having a smart phone and any computer use will be in the dining room where we can monitor it.

If my kid wants to look at naked people, they can borrow my Jess Franco movies!

It would be interesting to know what percentage of children over the age of say 12 and under say 16 have their own smartphone. I make no particular criticisms of any parents of such children, and I think a lot of the handwringing and hysteria that surrounds the issue is exactly that - hysteria. When has anyone ever succeeded in putting a technological genie back in its bottle? I find it utterly bizarre and unsettling that a piece of fiction (however well made) is being embraced by politicians who are ever addicted to the "we must be seen to be doing something" impulse.

Yes, don’t want to veer into politics section territory but it’s a lot easier to suggest teenagers watch a tv show than to actually try and address the problem

According to this, 97% of the UK's 12 year olds have a smartphone - https://www.theguardian.com/technolo...ve-smartphones

I'm genuinely surprised that the percentage for that age group is so high, but at the same time, I would have thought the guardian would have put a link to where they got that statistic from - maybe its hidden in plain view but I couldn't see it.

I left school in 2003 and it was only in the last year a lot of us got phones - but all you could do was ring and text people on those. So if nothing else, it was a lot more complicated if kids wanted to send naked pics of themselves to each other!

I'd have thought it's about right, maybe even on the conservative side. I teach a lot of kids in that age range and I genuinely don't believe I've seen any of them not have a smart phone in recent years. Granted I'm not referring to the UK, but I'd be amazed if the uptake in Greece is greater.
