INCOMING
Lots of titles have been added to the
database this week, and lots of press release info has been added to
existing entries.
New titles (or titles with newly-added
details) include...
...recent
theatrical releases Dorian Gray (on
Blu-ray and
DVD), Fame (on
Blu-ray and
DVD), Rob Zombie's Halloween 2 (aka H2 - on
DVD and
Blu-ray), GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra (on
DVD and
Blu-ray), Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds (on
Blu-ray,
DVD, and a special limited edition
Blu-ray), Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs (on
Blu-ray and
DVD), and The Time Traveller's Wife (on
DVD and
Blu-ray).
We've also added seasonal favourite It's
A Wonderful Life on
Blu-ray and
DVD;
Shameless Season 7; a twenty-disc
Travels with Palin box set;
In The Footsteps of Sherlock Holmes (with Patrick Macnee);
a
Jacques Tati box set, from the BFI; full details of the
Supernatural - Season 4 box set (on
DVD and
Blu-ray); the second series of BBC sitcom
Outnumbered; information about the DVD release of
Collision, a new, five-part Channel 4 drama series created by
Foyle's War's Anthony Horowitz, which is about a group of people whose
lives intersect when they're involved in a road collision; Isaac Julien's
groundbreaking
Young Soul Rebels; a Blu-ray release of the classic Ealing comedy
The Ladykillers (which has been restored, and looks stunning); the
eagerly-awaited second series of
Star Trek (the classic series) on Blu-ray; the DVD / Blu-ray
release of Disney's timeless
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs;
Robert Rodriguez's new kid's fantasy movie Shorts (Blu-ray
and
DVD); and a special limited edition DVD release for
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, which comes packaged with
a Death Eater Mask (exclusive to Amazon).
Doctor Who
Several Doctor Who titles have been
from our speculative
In
The Pipeline section, to the regular listings, since they've now
appeared at some etailers.
Clearly, though, there's some confusion
about the dates, which should be sorted out soon. They are:
Kamelion Tales (aka The Kamelion Collection - Planet of
Fire and The Kings' Demons),
Peladon Tales (The Curse of Peladon and The Monster of
Peladon),
Myths and Legends box set (The Horns of Nimon,
Underworld and The Time Monster),
The
Masque of Mandragora, and
Time and the Rani.
It looks like Play.com might have
underestimated the price of the Peladon box set, and have it listed for
what might be a bargain pre-order price:
£17.99
It also looks like 2 Entertain will be
re-releasing the
Key
to Time box set, which went out of print some time ago, leaving
many fans without a copy for their collection. Play.com have it listed for
release on November the 16th.

EVENTS NEWS
To
mark the launch of Titan Books' graphic novel Dark Entries, author
Ian Rankin will be giving a Q&A at the Edinburgh West End branch of
Waterstones at 6pm on Thursday October the 15th.
Here's the
book's press release:
International bestselling crime writer and recipient of an OBE for his
services to literature, acclaimed Scottish author Ian Rankin makes his
comics debut with the tense and twisting tale, Dark Entries [Titan
Books, 2 October 2009, £14.99].
Finding the
perfect protagonist for his dark and gritty style, Rankin takes on comics’
grim antihero of the hugely popular Hellblazer series, occult
detective John Constantine.
Constantine
has seen his share of strange things in his career, but nothing could
prepare him for the horrors of…reality television. “Haunted Mansion” is
currently the hottest show on TV, but when the macabre house actually
starts attacking the contestants, Constantine is hired to be the ultimate
mole. Locked inside with a cast of wannabe-celebrities, his every move
being monitored by a deadly figure from his past, Constantine must figure
out who (or what) is pulling the strings before he gets cancelled –
permanently.
Illustrated
by Werther Dell’Edera, whose work Publishers Weekly calls “as
stylized and chiaroscuro-laden as a vintage noir movie,” Rankin takes a
classic “locked room” scenario and gives it a bloody nose and a cigarette,
keeping readers on the edge of their seats until the very last page.

INCOMING
Details of several Sony releases for
November have been added to Incoming, including some important theatrical
titles: Moon, Year One and Terminator: Salvation.
Moon on
DVD and
Blu-ray
Year One on
DVD and
Blu-ray
There are, it seems, three different DVD
editions and four different Blu-ray editions of Terminator: Salvation,
which must be something of a record.
They are:
The regular DVD edition
Steelbook DVD edition, exclusive to Play.com
Special packaging DVD edition, exclusive to HMV
The regular Blu-ray edition
Steelbook Blu-ray edition, exclusive to Play.com
Special packaging Blu-ray edition, exclusive to HMV
Collector's Edition Skull Blu-ray version
There's also a
DVD box set featuring all four films. (There's no equivalent Blu-ray
version!)
I've also added details for the 1998
version of
Godzilla on Blu-ray.

INCOMING
Recent additions to our forthcoming
releases database, Incoming, include the new Harry Potter film on
DVD and
Blu-ray, as well as box sets encompassing all six movies to date,
again on
DVD and
Blu-ray; the acclaimed indie science-fiction movie District 9
on
DVD and
Blu-ray; the Will Farrell big-screen adaptation of prehistoric
adventure Land of the Lost, on
DVD and
Blu-ray; a Blu-ray version of Neil Marshall's excellent subterranean
horror movie
The Descent; and the first sniff of the David Tennant / Patrick
Stewart version of
Hamlet, which is probably one of the BBC's Christmas highlights.
Rather annoyingly, this is another high profile title shot in HD which 2
Entertain don't seem to be willing to release on Blu-ray.
Also newly-listed is the 1974 British
horror film
Ghost Story, which marks the very welcome return of Marc Morris'
specialist label Nucleus Films. As usual, it looks like they've gone the
extra mile - and then some - to create a very attractive product indeed.
I've added full details of HBO's release of
the first season of vampires-among-us series True Blood, which is
something of a guilty pleasure. The series is being released on
Blu-ray and
DVD on October the 26th, and looks like it will be up to HBO's usual
high standards. The series starts on Channel 4 on Wednesday, at 10pm.
I've also added details of the whopping
thirty-five disc
Columbo - The Complete TV Series DVD box set, which features all
ten seasons (by which I think they mean all nine seasons, plus the run of
TV movies from 1990-2003). None of the etailers I looked at had a shot of
the set opened up, so here it is...

AUDIOBOOK NEWS
BBC Audio has
released the cover images for discs four and five in the Doctor Who -
