The two transfers are very similar in terms of tonal range, grain and film dirt (so close I wouldn't recommend one over the other based on those factors alone). Note, though, that Universal's transfer is cropped on all four sides. In that respect, the R1 version is preferable. The R2 version's John Carpenter commentary will be a big factor for fans of the film (or for Carpenter fans!) |
