THE LOST BOYS

Director: Joel Schumacher

Starring: Corey Feldman, Jami Gertz, Corey Haim

Kids discover that the Californian town they’ve just moved to is plagued by vampires.

This brat pack vampire movie is beginning to show its age, even when, as here, it’s presented in a smart letterboxed (2.35:1) transfer with an adventurous Dolby Digital sound (not entirely surprising, since it was originally released in some theatres in 70mm, with a six-channel sound mix). The film is handicapped by Schumacher’s overly-flamboyant direction, and any number of dubious performances. Despite that, though, it’s still pretty entertaining, helped enormously by Michael Chapman’s excellent camerawork, (here enhanced for 16:9 presentation).

The Region 2 DVD includes a theatrical trailer and poorly designed production notes. Fans of the soundtrack - which remains a strong catalogue title more than ten years later - might like to know that the DVD has a scene index that allows easy access to most of the important music scenes.
