Mutant alligator. That’s pretty much all you need to know about the plot! But wait! It’s not nearly as awful as it sounds. Fair enough, it’s routinely directed (by Cujo’s Teague) but the witty script is written by John Sayles (it’s effectively a rewrite of his 1978 hit Piranha), and there are winning performances from Jackie Brown’s Robert Forster, and a great tongue-in-cheek role for Henry Silva. Digital Entertainment’s disc is nothing special, and suffers from the same inadequacies as the company’s House trilogy (poor source materials, full-frame transfer, compression artefacts). The 15-rated UK DVD version is more complete than the British theatrical version, which was cut for an A certificate.
